Americans trust the current White House under Donald Trump to “tell the public the truth” more than the media, according to a poll conducted by Fox News.

Interviews were asked via telephone “Who do you trust more to tell the public the truth — the Trump administration or the reporters who cover the administration?”

Forty-five percent of respondents said they trusted “government officials” under Donald Trump to tell the public the truth over news outlets, the Fox News poll found. Forty-two percent trusted the media over Trump officials, while 10 percent trusted neither.

Sixty-eight percent of respondents believe that the press coverage of Trump is tougher than that of his predecessor Barack Obama,, while just 18 percent think the press is easier than Trump than Obama.

Seventy-one percent of those surveyed think Trump should be more careful when he speaks, while 28 percent like that he speaks his mind.

The poll interviewed 1013 registered voters.

Trump’s relationship with the media is becoming increasingly contentious, as the new president regularly labels major outlets “fake news.”

Trump on Friday proclaimed that  the “FAKE NEWS media” is not his own enemy, but an “enemy of the American People.”

The war between President Trump and the press reached new heights this week

An Emerson College poll released earlier this month also shows voters trust the Trump administration more than the news media.

The administration is considered truthful by 49 percent of registered voters and untruthful by 48 percent.

But the news media is less trusted than the administration, with 53 percent calling it untruthful and just 39 percent finding it honest.
