The wife and stepson of the a Ku Klux Klan leader were charged on Monday with murder.
The body of Frank Ancona, 51, the self-proclaimed “imperial wizard” of the Traditionalist American Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, was discovered in a river Saturday by a family fishing in the area.
Police believe Mr Ancona was shot in his sleep on Thursday at home in Leadwood, Missouri.
Frank Ancona’s wife, Malissa Ancona, posted an appeal on Facebook for his return on Friday.
Authorities believe, however, that Mrs. Ancona and her stepson Paul Jinkerson Jr. are responsible for Frank Ancona’s murder.
The two are also facing charges of tampering with physical evidence and abandonment of a corpse and have been remanded without bail.
It is unclear what motive – if any – Frank Ancona’s wife would have for killing her own husband.
Mr. Ancona was a member of the Traditionalist American Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, which describes itself as a “White Patriotic Christian organization.”
The murder of Frank Ancona, an outspoken Klansman member, comes after he met with a blogger from the hacktivist group ANONYMOUS in 2014. The meeting resulted a in a tit for tat cyber war, with a secret cabal of KKK members hacking Anonymous.
Last July, Frank Ancona gained notoriety on social media for rescuing a woman from a burning car wreck. The woman gratefully posted on Facebook:
“So, I’m about to speak on something that very few people know about, but it wouldn’t be right to not give (them) the praise they deserve… I have already individually given them my personal words and am FOREVER GRATEFUL & THANKFUL to Frank Ancona…”
“One of the longest serving democrat senators Robert C Byrd was a long-time kkk member”

Anonymous released a list in November 2015 naming individuals they alleged were members of the Ku Klux Klan. This list claims hat four U.S. senators and five mayors were members and this triggered speedy denials from one of the senators and all of the mayors denied they were involved in anything to do with the KKK within days of the list being published.
Some Klan members then joined in a counter-cyber attack offensive against Anonymous and successfully hijacked an ‘official’ Anonymous TWITTER account.
Considering Frank Ancona had been involved in ‘flame wars’ with online hacktivists, local neighbours say it is surprising that the police have so quickly charged his wife with his murder.
Local residents say they liked Frank Ancona who earned a living as a truck driver delivering car parts.
